Planning further PaddleOCR integration for the mobile app.

ocr

Whisper and Ollama have already been added to the phone, only PaddleOCR is missing.

These three are all projects that are quite friendly for on-device AI in apps, offering fast speeds and high quality.

As of writing this note, PaddleOCR has been successfully added.

The app’s size after packaging has reached 300MB, which is a bit large.

Currently, there isn’t any specific scenario requiring OCR; it’s just a preparation, kept for future use.

Tools

A new ‘Tools’ tab has been added.

PaddleOCR and a flashlight have been added to it.

The plan is to include some everyday basic phone functionalities on the tools page, to avoid issues like ads or privacy concerns with other apps.

For example, an AC switch, flashlight, spirit level, compass, etc.

These aren’t particularly needed right now either, but with AI writing code, I always want to add more of my own features to the app.

Thoughts

Next, I plan to organize some truly useful and profitable content.

Currently, I intend to update my blog to prepare for future integration with Google Ads and affiliate commissions.

Developing apps on my phone is about being able to enter a work state anytime, anywhere, rather than relying on a computer and having to sit down to work.

Currently, there are two income streams: Google Ads on the website, and YouTube’s YPP (YouTube Partner Program) ads.

Ideally, the website and YouTube should be linked. The model I’m currently aware of is that of the YouTube blogger ‘Lingdu Jieshuo’ (Zero Degree Commentary).

This is a tech blogger who explains content in videos and then guides users to their blog to view articles and download resources.

Mainly focusing on topics related to computer technology and AI technology.

They currently have millions of followers and almost daily updates and content.

My previous technical focus was too niche/geeky, like Raspberry Pi or Docker. It’s too difficult and niche for ordinary people, and advertisers would hardly invest in it.

Currently, only major AI companies and VPS providers would invest in advertising, which is how YPP and Google Ads would generate revenue.

Information Sources

To this day, I still don’t have a stable and reliable information source, so I’m always a few steps behind others when it comes to AI and technology.

Information asymmetry is one way to make money.
